Background
Hi everyone, my name is Annie Wang. I’m a Junior at Baruch College pursuing a degree in Marketing Management with a concentration in International Marketing, and a minor in Psychology. I chose this academic path because I’ve always been interested in how trends and stories travel across borders and connect people with different cultures and customs. Growing up in New York City, I’ve been surrounded with diversity my whole life, which interested me in how business and trends speak to a diverse audience.
I’ve always been interested in fashion and given that New York is one of the world’s fashion capitals, I’m constantly intrigued in how fashion reflects culture and self-identity. Also, I’ve become aware of how fast-fashion culture connects to global challenges. Consumers are looking for affordable and trendy styles that fuel exploitation and environmental waste. This has pushed me to become more aware of how marketing strategies can not only promote products, but also bring awareness to ethical and sustainable choices.
As an University Students
My studies at Baruch College have introduced me to the fundamental foundations of consumer behavior and cross-cultural communications. I’ve completed projects that explore how companies adapt to global needs while staying true to their mission through ESG, buyers’ needs, and ethics. My psychology minor adds to the understanding of the drive behind consumer behavior and decision making. By blending marketing with psychology, I’ve been able to analyze not only how businesses market their products and services, but also why consumers are drawn to it. My psychology background strengthens the perspective by understanding the study behind consumer behavior and decision-making. I’ve learned why companies market their campaigns the way they do to draw in consumers’ views onto the focal points.
The courses I’ve taken and are currently taking are very demanding, but I’ve learned a lot !
Motivation to start this Internship
The reason why I started this internship was my interest in marketing and sustainability. I believe in bringing positive change to not only the fashion and beauty world but also environment and social issues through story telling. It is our responsibility to create a meaningful impact on our Earth based on the UN’s SDG goals. I believe through this internship, I’ll be able to gain hands-on experience on the impact of tourism and how to maintain sustainable tourism through cruising. I believe I’ll be able to use my commitment to sustainability with my marketing and psychology background to bring awareness globally to consumers. Sustainability is not only a trend, but a life-long essential that companies and us as individuals should be practicing.
My Passion and Interests.
My passion is to become more aware of consumer behavior and how global trends shape the way businesses communicate to their audience. I hope to grow into a mindful consumer and marketer who can connect with people through creativity and help businesses create missions that make a lasting impact. My passion for marketing and sustainability interests me in fashion and beauty trends. Companies are constantly coming out with new makeup products and trendy clothing that lead to overconsumption. Of course, us as buyers give into their marketing, causing us to buy more makeup before we’ve used up the makeup we already own, or buying more clothes when we have unworn clothes hung up in our closet. We see the latest trends and decide that we need to consume it to stay trendy, but I believe it’s a waste of money while contributing to landfills and pollution.
Future Vision
In the future, I hope to work in marketing for global brands in fashion and beauty to produce stories that resonate across different cultures to promote sustainability and mindful habits. With my studies in international marketing and psychology, I hope I make a meaningful impact on our world and other peoples’ lives. Ultimately, I see a future where I build bridges with people all across the globe and help brands grow with sustainability in mind.
