今回は、ラ・ロシェルという町を紹介します。
私の故郷から2時間のところにあり、子供の頃に何度も訪れる機会がありました。フランスの西部に位置し、大西洋に面した要塞都市で、夏には時にフランス人観光客に人気のあるレ島やオレロン島からも近いです。ジロンド川の出口に位置する戦略的な場所であるから、中世以来非常に重要な港として有知られている。そのため文化的、歴史的に重要な観光都市となりました。
ラ・ロシェルで最も有名な観光スポットはマリーナで（写真１）、船（写真２）やショップ、おいしいレストランの間を散策することができます（写真３）。景色と太陽の光を楽しむために、外のテーブルで食事をすることをお勧めします。ここは、地元の牡蠣やその他の新鮮な魚介類を味わうのに最適な場所です。
Today, I would like to present the city of La Rochelle because I had many opportunities to visit it as a child as it is only two hours from my hometown.
It is a fortified city located in the west part of France, facing the Atlantic Ocean and not far from the isle of Ré and the isle of Oléron which are very popular among French tourists during the summer. Its strategic position right at the exit of the Gironde estuary has made it a very important port since the Middle Ages, therefore it has become a city with significant cultural and historical appeal for tourism.
The most famous place to see in La Rochelle is the marina (picture 1), where you can wander between boats (picture 2), shops and delicious restaurants (picture 3). I recommend eating at an outdoor table to enjoy the view and the sunshine. This is one of the best places to try the local oysters and other fresh seafood.

街の中心部を歩くと、サン・ニコラ塔（写真４）、シェーヌ塔、ランテルヌ塔（写真５）、ポルト・ド・ラ・グロス・オルロージ（写真６）など、街の防衛に使われた古いモニュメントを見ることができます。これらの要塞は、ユネスコの世界遺産に登録されました。
As you walk around city center, you can see old monuments that were used for the defense of the city, such as the Saint-Nicolas tower (picture 4), Chaîne tower, Lanterne tower (picture 5), or the Grosse Horloge gate (picture 6). These fortifications are listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.

街のもう一つの魅力は、港のすぐ近くにあるヨーロッパ最大級の水族館です。
もちろん、ラ・ロシェルは海辺の街なので、レ・ミニームのビーチで泳いだりリラックスしたりすることもできます。また、暑すぎる場合は、20年以上の歴史があり、70種類以上のユニークなフレーバーから選べる象徴的なアイスクリームショップ「アーネスト」でアイスクリームを食べることをお勧めします。買うためには二十分待つかもしれません我慢して並んでください。絶対おいしいです。
毎年7月に、5日間にわたって、マリーナで「レ・フランコフォリ」と呼ばれる有名なフランスの音楽祭が開催され、多くの観光客が訪れます。

One of the other main attractions of the city is the aquarium which is famous for being one of the largest in Europe and located very close to the port.
Of course, as La Rochelle is a seaside city it is also possible to go to the beach of Les Minimes to swim and relax. And if it is too hot, I recommend eating an ice cream at Ernest, an iconic ice cream shop that has been around for more than 20 years that offers over 70 unique flavors to choose from. Don’t be afraid to wait around 20 minutes to taste them!
Each July, for five days, a famous French music festival called Les Francofolies takes place in the marina and attracts many visitors, so if you are interested be sure to check the schedule in advance.
